ALERT is a ground-breaking and ambitious example of integrated policing in Canada. No other province has a similar model, and I take great pride in our teams’ many accomplishments. By maintaining a province-wide focus and practicing intelligence-led policing, the ALERT model is proving successful. Since our inception in 2006, ALERT has arrested more than 4,000 people and laid about 12,000 charges. During the 2010 – 2011 fiscal year alone, we took $115 million worth of drugs off Alberta streets and laid 2,005 charges against 1,001 people. As the number of criminal networks continues to rise, ALERT knows there is still much work ahead. The criminal landscape in Alberta continues to evolve, growing more sophisticated and pushing beyond local and regional boundaries. With continued support from our partner police agencies and the provincial government, ALERT will persist in our efforts to keep our communities safe by disrupting and dismantling serious and organized crime across Alberta.
