Criminal Intelligence Service Alberta (CISA) acts as a central hub for strategic analysis and intelligence sharing on serious and organized crime in Alberta. CISA was originally established in 1971 by the RCMP 'K' Division to manage various intelligence and analytical units within the RCMP. Changes to the CISA constitution in 1996 restructured CISA to function in an autonomous manner through the collaboration and integration of resources from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and police services of Calgary, Edmonton, Lethbridge, and Medicine Hat. This collaboration was intended to promote an integrated, intelligence-led approach to combating serious and organized crime in Alberta. CISA receives its direction from the CISA Executive comprised of the Chiefs of Police from each of the above Services and the Commanding Officer of RCMP "K" Division. CISA links organizations that are responsible for intelligence gathering, criminal investigations and enforcing provincial and federal laws. These connections make it possible for police and government to work together effectively to create safer communities for all Albertans. CISA provides strategic, operational, and tactical intelligence services and products in concert with other intelligence and enforcement agencies in Alberta and serves as a centre of excellence for the intelligence process. CISA is part of a Canadian network of similar organizations that make up Criminal Intelligence Service Canada. |
