ALERT charges two after seizing substantial amount of ‘date-rape’ drug

Calgary… The Alberta Law Enforcement Response Teams has charged two men with numerous drug-related offences after executing a search warrant at a southwest Calgary residence.

With help from the Calgary Police Service, ALERT’s Combined Special Forces Enforcement Unit-Calgary (CFSEU-Calgary) arrested two men and searched a residence located in the 1800 block of 26 Avenue SW. The team found over two litres of Gamma Hydroxybutyric (GHB), commonly known as the ‘date-rape drug.’ If sold on the street, its value is approximately $20,000.

The search also revealed a small quantity of ecstasy, miscellaneous drug paraphernalia and over $8,000 cash.

Joshua KEMP, age 25, is charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking, possession of ecstasy, proceeds of crime and breach of recognizance. The accused is currently before the courts regarding a separate drug investigation.

William Roy YOUNG, age 22, is charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking, possession of ecstasy and proceeds of crime.

ALERT is an umbrella organization established by the Government of Alberta to bring together the province’s most sophisticated law enforcement resources to tackle serious and organized crime. Close to 400 municipal police, RCMP and sheriffs work for ALERT.
