ALERT continues to tackle organized crime with Grande Prairie arrest

February 29, 2012

Edmonton….A Grande Prairie resident believed to be a member of an outlaw motorcycle gang has been charged with a number of offences after approximately $40,000 in cocaine was seized.

Working closely with Edmonton’s Integrated Intelligence Unit and the Peace Regional RCMP Detachment General Investigation Section, ALERT’s Grande Prairie Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit (CFSEU-Grande Prairie) arrested and charged Christopher PAPPAS following a vehicle stop on Highway 2 near Grimshaw. Fairview and Grande Prairie RCMP assisted with the vehicle stop during which four ounces of cocaine were seized. A search warrant was then executed at a Grande Prairie residence where the team found more cocaine and other evidence.

In total, the team seized 11 ounces of cocaine, ammunition for a handgun, a small quantity of cannabis resin (hashish) and nearly $5,000 cash.

Police believe the cocaine was destined for Peace River.

PAPPAS is believed to be a member of the recently formed Demon Soldiers outlaw motorcycle gang in Grande Prairie. The Demon Soldiers is a support club for a much larger outlaw motorcycle gang.

“Organized crime is linked to much of Alberta’s serious and violent crime,” said CFSEU-Grande Prairie’s Cst. John Lamming. “This investigation shows the value of working with our partners in urban and rural areas across Alberta to crack down on organized crime and keep our communities safe.”

PAPPAS, age 42, is charged with two counts of possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking and one count each of possession of proceeds of crime, possession of ammunition while prohibited and possession of cannabis resin.

CFSEU-Grande Prairie is an ALERT team established and funded by the Government of Alberta to bring together the province’s most sophisticated law enforcement resources to tackle serious and organized crime. Over 400 municipal police, RCMP and sheriffs work for ALERT.
