ALERT wraps up drug trafficking investigation in Fort McMurray, two charged

Fort McMurray…ALERT’s Wood Buffalo Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit (CFSEU) charged two Fort McMurray residents following a short-term drug trafficking investigation that led to the seizure of cocaine and oxycodone.

On July 3, CFSEU-Wood Buffalo executed a search warrant at an apartment on Lougheed Drive in Fort McMurray where they seized 85 grams of cocaine, 108 oxycodone pills, over $17,000 cash, drug trafficking paraphernalia, and two vehicles. In total, the drugs seized have an estimated street value of over $19,000. The Wood Buffalo RCMP Drug Section and Police Dog Services Unit provided assistance.

Maureen GRANT, age 57, and David GRANT, age 66, are each charged with two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking and one count of possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.

David GRANT also faces three charges of breach of recognizance related to charges laid during a previous ALERT investigation that wrapped up in May 2013. At that time, police seized 170 grams of cocaine, a small amount of marihuana, drug trafficking paraphernalia, nearly $12,000 cash, and a 2008 Jeep Commander.

The two accused were released on bail with conditions and will make their next court appearances on July 30 in Fort McMurray.
