Handguns Seized in Calgary Drug Raid

Calgary… Seven handguns were taken out of the hands of a suspected drug dealer after two Calgary homes and three vehicles were searched. Nearly half a million dollars in drugs and cash was also seized by ALERT.

ALERT Calgary made the seizure on May 17, 2017 with help from Calgary Police Service. Homes in the Calgary neighbourhoods of Mahogany and Somerset were searched, along with three vehicles.

The following items were seized as the result of the searches:

  • 7 loaded handguns;
  • Ammunition and extra magazines;
  • Two tasers;
  • Body armour;
  • 2.5 kilograms of cocaine;
  • 1 kilogram of methamphetamine;
  • 15 kilograms of a cocaine buffing agent;
  • $50,000 cash proceeds of crime.

Behnam Fayaz, 31, was arrested leaving the Mahogany home and was found in possession of a loaded Glock handgun that was previously reported stolen. The remaining handguns were found in two separate vehicles, which ALERT alleges were being used for drug deals.

The Somerset home was allegedly operating as a crack cocaine production lab. The Somerset home was found in such deplorable conditions that the investigation was forwarded to the Alberta Health Inspectors office.

Fayaz is charged with 26 offences related to drugs and firearms.
