Medicine Hat man charged with luring Florida girl

Medicine Hat… A 41-year-old Medicine Hat man has been arrested by Alberta Law Enforcement Response Teams (ALERT) for luring a 12-year-old girl in Florida. ALERT assisted St. Johns County Sherriff’s Office in St. Augustine, Fla. by making the arrest.

ALERT’s Southern Alberta Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) team, with the assistance of Medicine Hat Police Service (MHPS) and the RCMP, arrested Daniel Russell Rand on December 10th. He is charged with two counts of child luring in addition to possession of child pornography and accessing child pornography.

The accused had been engaged in inappropriate e-mail communications with the girl. It was not until the girl’s parents discovered the e-mails that the Sherriff’s Office became involved and contacted ALERT.

ICE is an ALERT team established and funded by the Government of Alberta to bring together the province’s most sophisticated law enforcement resources to tackle serious and organized crime. Nearly 400 municipal police, RCMP and sheriffs work for ALERT.
