Variety of Drugs and Weapons Seized in Calgary Search

Calgary… Two shotguns, a variety of drugs, and a number of weapons were seized from two Calgary homes following a short-term investigation by ALERT.

ALERT Calgary’s organized crime and gang team searched homes in the Dover and Mission neighbourhoods of Calgary on November 10, 2016. Calgary Police Service provided assistance and two suspects were arrested.

Dana Sutherland, 33, and Alok Uppal, 40, have been charged with a number of drug and weapons related offences. The pair was allegedly involved in street-level drug sales and ALERT began its investigation following a tip from the public.

As result of the searches, the following items were seized from both homes:

  • Two shotguns and ammunition;
  • 39 grams of cocaine;
  • 13 grams of methamphetamine;
  • 13 grams of marijuana;
  • 15 grams of hashish;
  • 70 Codeine pills;
  • 110 unknown pills;
  • 17 Lorazepam pills;
  • 5 grams of an unknown powder;
  • $3,647 cash proceeds of crime;
  • Nine Replica firearms
  • Various weapons, including collapsible baton, swords, nunchuks, and knives.

The drugs seized have an estimated street value of $10,000.

Uppal was charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking (x 2), possession of property obtained by crime, and breach of probation (x 3).

Sutherland was charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking (x 2), possession of a controlled substance (x 4), possession of property obtained by crime (x 2), possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, unsafe storage of a firearm (x 2), possession of a firearm while unauthorized (x 2), possession of a prohibited firearm with ammunition (x 2), possession of a firearm contrary to a prohibition order (x 2), and breach of recognizance (x 10).
